REIKI (pronounced RAY KEY),when translated into western dialect, means Universal Life Force Energy or Spiritual (not religious) Energy.
Reiki is a Japanese healing treatment, which helps to calm the mind, promoting healing for both body and spirit. It is a gentle hands-on healing that works on a higher vibration which rebalances and renews energy to enhance your life’s journey. Reiki can help unlock your natural creativity allowing your body to restore physical and emotional well-being, helping you find true peace of mind and brings positivity to help you cope with life’s daily challenges.
Reiki, as we know it today, began in the early 1900s. It is recorded that through study, research and meditation a Japanese sensei, Mikao Usui, had an experience of empowerment that led to the development of Reiki as a healing system. Usui devoted the rest of his life to practising and teaching this art of living and healing. Over time the system of Reiki healing developed by Mikao Usui, has evolved or been changed by subsequent teachers. Today a number of different forms, or branches, of Reiki are practised worldwide. A common element of many forms of Reiki is a set of principles.
1. Do not become angry
2. Worry about nothing
3. Express one's gratitude
4. Be diligent in work
5. Be kind to others
We are alive because life force is flowing through us. Life force flows within the physical body though pathways called chakras and meridians. It also flows around us in a field of energy called the aura. Life force nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions. When this flow of life force is disrupted, it causes diminished function in one or more of the organs and tissues of the physical body.
The life force is responsive to thoughts and feelings. It becomes disrupted when we accept, either consciously or unconsciously, negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves. These negative thoughts and feelings attach themselves to the energy field and cause a disruption in the flow of life force. This diminishes the vital function of the organs and cells of the physical body.
Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. It raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body where the negative thoughts and feelings are attached. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. In so doing, Reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways, thus allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way.
The System of Reiki is a Complementary, safe, vibrational / energy healing practice, that promotes balance in mind, body, and spirit. It is:
Gentle – but powerful hands-on technique using universal healing energy.
Simple – one of the most ancient, purest and simplest forms of healing in use today.
Natural – a natural healing method for restoring balance and promoting well-being.
Healing – releases blocked energy channels, helping the body to heal itself.
Versatile – can very easily be used with other therapies.
Relaxing – evokes a deep sense of peace and relaxation.
Complements the healing properties of all orthodox medical treatments or complementary therapies.
Not intrusive – Reiki energy will pass through clothing, bandages, plaster casts etc. And therefore you can remain fully clothed at all times.
Balances – helps balance the emotions and clear the mind.
Vitality – increases vitality and reduces stress.
In a standard treatment Reiki energy flows from the practitioners hands into the client. The client is usually laying on a massage table but treatments can also be given while the client is seated or even standing. The client remains fully clothed. The practitioner places her/his hands on or near the clients body in a series of hand positions. Each position is held for three to five minutes depending on how much Reiki the client needs at each position. The whole treatment usually lasts between 60 and 90 minutes.
Even one single Reiki session can make a difference; however a course of regular treatments may be more effective. These may be weekly, fortnightly or less often depending on the needs of the individual.
Persons receiving Reiki report differing effects, such as increased warmth, cold, or tingling sensations. Whatever the individual’s experience, the general beneficial effect of the treatment is the same. You should feel relaxed and restored and have a greater feeling of well-being.
Reiki has had a positive affect on all forms of illness and negative conditions. This includes minor things like head or stomach aches, bee stings, colds, flu, tension and anxiety as well as more serious mental, emotional or physical conditions ( remember Reiki is a complementary technique and can't take place of the primary treatment!) The side effects of regular medical treatments have also been reduced or eliminated. This includes the negative effects of chemotherapy, post operative pain and depression as well as improving the healing rate and reducing the time needed to stay in the hospital. Reiki treatments bring rapid stress reduction and relief from pain and anxiety. Recipients commonly report improved sleep and digestion and a greater sense of well-being.Each person is unique. Reiki supports our well-being and strengthens our natural ability to heal itself by encouraging balance in our energy centres called Chakras. Benefits vary from person to person as does the time it takes to reach this state. When a person is already in good health, it increases vitality and postpones the aging process. The continued use of Reiki treatments when you are not sick will manifest itself as self- confidence and self-assurance.
